I’ve been slammed with wedding and engagement work this summer, but I’ve also been trying something totally new for me: high school senior portraits!

When I was a high school senior, we all lined up in the gym and took turns posing in front of various backgrounds. We had the fake tree, the fake pedastal, and – everyone’s favorite – the canvas director’s chair with “1999″ printed on the back. My pictures turned out fine, but they also turned out exactly like everyone else’s. We didn’t think anything of it at the time… that was just how pictures were done.
Today’s seniors have more options. While you do still need to get the traditional yearbook photo done at your school in most cases, you can be more adventurous and expressive in your other photos. You can have photos that not only look different from your friends’, but that truly capture who you are as an individual – your laugh, your smile, your hobbies and activities, even your dance moves. : )
I think most seniors find the portrait session is really fun. We go to places you like and take the pictures in a relaxed, casual way. I usually spend a full 2 hours with my seniors, so there is time for 3 outfits and often for 2 locations as well. By the end of the session, you’ll feel like a supermodel! (Parents and siblings are welcome to come along, too.)
I have 6 or 7 seniors booked for this summer in Bristol, but I’d love to get a few more in the Christiansburg-Blacksburg-Roanoke area! Take a look at the samples below, and if you like what you see, contact me and get your session scheduled!
Each of these beautiful girls will get her own full blog post later on, probably closer to school starting up, so stay tuned if you want to see more, or else you can check out their sneak preview albums on my Facebook page.
First up, meet Christina. Christina goes to CHS and was my very first senior this year. We shot these photos at Bisset Park in Radford. Her three sisters came along with her, so we also snapped a few shots of all four of them together!

Next up, Brittni, from JSB. Brittni is a major athlete, so we took a few pictures in her sports gear before changing into her other outfits. These photos were shot at her high school and out at my grandfather’s barn.

My latest senior is Mariah, also from JSB. Mariah is hilarious and really rocked her session. We shot her photos at Sugar Hollow Park and the downtown train station.

Remember, I’m a full-time teacher too, and many of my fall/summer weekends are committed to weddings already, so if you want to try doing your senior portraits with me, get it in touch fast! The best way to contact me is through email at ngibbsphotography@gmail.com.
