Twenty minutes just isn’t enough time to be moving all around, so I usually choose one or two nearby spots for each family.  The photos in this post, for example, were taken at Sinkland Farm’s main pumpkin display and in the corn maze.  Sometimes I have clients with their hearts set on a certain background for their photos, but I’d urge you to be open to suggestion. I usually look for locations that have nice lighting and that will work well with the colors you’re wearing.  Depending on time of day, I also try to avoid getting other people in your backgrounds.  All this takes consideration and experience.  If there is a particular spot you MUST use, definitely let me know, and we’ll figure out how to make it work.

I was so relieved last year when our mini session day was supposed to be warm and sunny. But you know how it started out? VERY foggy and cool. Make sure your outfit can be layered or unlayered according to the temperature, and bring a cute umbrella along in case we get a bit of rain.

Sinkland Farms Pumpkin Patch portraits6. Speaking of rain, here’s how rescheduling works.

I only reschedule if it’s really rainy and miserable (or flooding, as was the case this year on September 30th), so if it’s cloudy we will still shoot. Any sessions cancelled for weather will be rescheduled on an individual basis. Sometimes I can’t reschedule, and if that’s the case, I will refer you to another photographer who might be able to fit you in. To aid in all this, I prefer NOT to take payment in advance. Your money is due at the time of your session. That way, should we have to cancel, nothing has been lost.

Most people choose to upgrade to the digital file package for mini sessions, which means they end up with about 10-15 finished photographs of their family and the rights to print them. Please, please, please don’t make those images live on your computer forever. Print them off and share them with others! You can order (retouched) prints directly from me, or print yourself using a lab like mPix or Artifact Uprising. Prints look great on your wall and also make lovely gifts for family members.
