Well, 2016 is almost here, and with the new year always comes exciting new changes and plans. I have not one, but THREE big announcements for this new year.
Okay, they’re maybe not that all that big… But they’ve taken some extra work on the backend here, so they definitely feel big to me.
1. DID YOU NOTICE THIS TOTALLY NEW LOOK?!!!
I finally did it. I installed a new website theme that will perform better (and just as importantly, look better) on mobile. I’d been putting this change off because the last few times I did something like this, it was hard, and it took a long time, and I worried about losing my website altogether. This time: simple. Major thanks to the Envato team who designed this theme, because it’s pretty and sharp and also came with excellent, fast customer support.
There is still some tweaking to be done. Older posts are appearing off center, and that’s something I may fix bit by bit. Links don’t really show up unless you roll over them, which can sometimes be confusing Otherwise, it’s good to go, and did you notice the Instagram feed at the bottom? Which brings me to my next announcement…
2. I AM FINALLY COMMITTING TO INSTAGRAM.
I’ve tried this app at three different times in my life, and it’s been really difficult for me to get it to “stick.” Mostly, I’m not always sure how Instagram should fit alongside this website, my personal Tumblr blog, and Facebook. Do I really want to be using my phone that much more every day?
What I’ve found is that if I go ahead and allow at least periodic push notifications from Instagram, I’m much more likely to use it. And as I’ve been more likely to use it, I’ve also found better ways to connect with vendors and other photographers and moms. So… yeah. I see what all the fuss is about.
But wait… there’s more!
I’ve been using Instagram for wedding work for about year now, but this week I decided (after a LOT of thought) to go ahead and incorporate more of my personal photos and family work on Instagram as well. I’m super excited about this, because it means you can sort through a growing portfolio of personal, family, and wedding images with one click. And comments are allowed, which helps make up for Tumblr removing their reply feature this fall.
3. GREAT NEWS FOR SIBLINGS (AND PARENTS)
I love being able to work with the same families more than once, and I also know that financing multiple weddings gets expensive. So, I’m introducing a sibling discount for weddings. If you are a sibling to a bride or groom I’ve worked with before and are now looking for your own photographer, email me to find out more!
