Doing a chilly spring family session with five cousins in a sunlit garden is a most excellent warm-up for a wedding day. So glad I got to start my Saturday with these lovely young people.

My 2012 wedding season starts next weekend, and I am really excited to get it kick it off with Sean and Colleen. We shot their engagement pictures this March in Roanoke, VA, at the Mill Mountain Star and the downtown business district. I don’t know Roanoke extremely well, despite having lived pretty close by for the past 6 years (and 5 more in college), so it’s always fun to get to explore it with my camera in tow. (Also fun: stopping at Bubblecake for dessert after the shoot… yum!). You’ll notice they brought their pug in for some of these shots. I used to have a pug myself (Daphne), so I really enjoyed getting to play with this little guy.

Just a little sneak preview of what’s coming up from baby Desmond’s 12-month photos.
Getting to photograph a newborn baby is a particular honor. This was my first attempt at newborn photography in about three years, and I’m really proud of how our images turned out. These photos were a joy to take. To be honest, I think I might have fallen in love with newborn photography a little bit.
One great side effect of having a baby is that you get a lot of practice taking baby photos. Although I didn’t plan to start photographing babies professionally, I did agree to do a few shoots this year just for fun. First up, Baby Desmond! Click for more….
